Georgia State's Multicultural Center and the Cultures, Communities & Inclusion initiative are hosting multiple events during National Coming Out Day on Oct. 11. Learn more below, and check out https://dei.gsu.edu/lgbtq/ for more events at Georgia State during this LGBTQ+ History Month.
Each year on Oct. 11, National Coming Out Day continues to promote a safe world for
LGBTQ+ individuals to live openly.
Started in 1988 by Rob Eichberg and Jean O’Leary in celebration of the second March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights on Oct. 11, 1987. In the 1980s, when many
people did not know any openly LGBTQ+ people, ignorance and silence allowed
homophobia to persist. It was believed that when people realized they knew someone who was LGBTQ+, they would be far more likely to support their civil rights and reject discrimination.
