Overview

Strategic Partnership with the National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA).
The organization has several initiatives for Black students. Robinson College supports those, as well as sends MBA students each year to the Graduate Case Competition.

Benefits

Strategic Partnership with the National Black MBA (NBMBAA) — They sponsor an annual conference that attracts top students, alumni and employers from around the world.

o GSU Team placed in the top 3 for 4 of the last 5 years

In FY 17 and 18, we were awarded the Education Partner of the Year for 2016 and 2017 for the NBMBAA Atlanta Chapter. This award is given in recognition of our support and partnership with the Atlanta Chapter, the Leaders of Tomorrow program, the LOT National High School Case Competition – Atlanta Student Team, the National Grad / Undergrad Case Competitions, our attendance at the National Conference and being a National Collegiate Partner. Employers were also in attendance at this event such as Delta, Northwestern Mutual, Chick-fila, Home Depot, SunTrust, Georgia Power, Georgia Pacific, Starbucks, etc.

With over 1300 members, NBMBAA Atlanta has been recognized as a thought leader in the professional and civic community.

Program sponsored (in-house) professional development sessions/ coursework (e.g., workshops, test preparation, mini-courses, specialized course, conference presentations, resume/cv building, tutoring, professional development etiquette), Funding to attend professional development sessions/coursework (e.g., conference travel, professional development session/coursework registration fee, application fee waiver, book purchase), Mentor honorarium/stipend

Additional Research Components, Roles and Responsibilities

Faculty and staff work with Black MBA student teams to prepare them for the national case competition. The students travel along with staff and faculty guide to the event and make multiple rounds of presentations to corporate case sponsors and NBMBAA representatives.

Self-efficacy Emphasis

Students receive coaching from faculty mentor and staff and get feedback on trial presentations of case studies from a select group of faculty. During the conference, students get to network with their peers from other institutions and with potential employers.

Acknowledgement/Affirmation of Identity, Strengths, Needs

Students teams are selected based on their complimentary skill sets. This requires knowing where each student is in the program and matching their strengths to make the best team possible. They are encouraged throughout the process to present themselves as representatives of the Robinson College of Business and given positive reinforcement in the case feedback.
